The Mint Gun Club

One of the best statements to come out of hip hop this year is a simple one by a great young man you may have heard of (of course you’ve heard of him you’re not hermits who live without the internet in a commune in Wales) by the name of Kendrick Lemar. The statement is simply “Be humble”. And humble is how we would describe The Mint Gun Club, located on a pretty quiet side road in Stoke Newington just by a bus stop, from the outside it doesn’t really shout hidden gem and the same can be said for the decor within. But however once you pick a couple of delights from the menu and a couple of cocktails from the bar you know you are in the company of something quite special.

The Mint Gun Club is actually something I would expect to find a bit further North on Upper St with some great bites to eat it feels like it shouldn’t be so close to housing Estates and a Bus Garage, but that’s part of the humble beauty. This is one of those “Little place I know” places that you can be proud to take people and have them wonder how you even came to find it.

The food menu consist of some beautiful surprises such as coconut labneh spreads, bang bang kimchi, jerk pickle, quails eggs, marinated pineapple, fruit wine melon and that’s just a glimpse of what you can combine to make your own a la carte bites to sit on wonderful choice of breads.

Tea lovers who like to delve beyond English breakfast can really indulge in a true cup of chai with a selection of teas from the Chinese, Jasmine Silver Tip, to the house blend Mint Gun Club Blend which is a blend of nepalese black, gun powder green and malawi spearmint.

The bar portion of this wonderful little find is brought to your courtesy of a former bartender of the year and former brand ambassador for Milk & Honey and Hawksmoor. So you can either go in an order from the menu (which isn’t a bad thing), or suggest a base spirit and you taste preference and see what they can come up with for you (why waste all that talent?). We can’t even really go through the whole menu, but we’d suggest returning continously to try everything, however if you only go the once and only order one drink then we highly recommend that you order from the Gimlet menu and have the Rudie. The Rudie is a cocktail made is Shiso tonic Cordial, Elderflower liqueur and “fragrant Jamaican Rum” (we asked and of course it Wray & Nephew). This little thing is just a joy!

All in all this is one of those little place you should frequent and get to the point your on first name basis with everyone there.

Oh and the location…

4a Brook Road, Stoke Newington, N16 7LS
